Holly Parson Nielsen is a nationally recognized artist and award winning illustrator. Her work has been featured by the National John Steinbeck Society and was selected by illustration icons John English and Brent Watkinson to represent the Illustration Academy in Richmond, Virginia. She is a recipient of the 2018 Moonbeam Children’s Book Gold Medal Award.
Ms. Nielsen studied with such illustrators as Wade Hunstman, Hala Wittwer Swearingen, and Jeff Carter. She was accepted to the Illustration Academy in Richmond, Virginia, where she studied with some of the great illustrators of our time, including Sterling Hundley, Brent Watkinson, John English, Gary Kelley, and C.F. Payne. This formative experience influenced not only her technique, but also her understanding of the imaginative possibilities of illustration. Her first published work was written by author Sian Bessey, and is called Teddy Bear, Blankie, and a Prayer. She also illustrated The Fact Family, written by Sandy Turley and The Twelve Hats of Christmas, by Brett Parson, which received the 2018 Moonbeam Children’s Book Gold Medal Award. Ms. Nielsen has also published with the National John Steinbeck Society, and was the illustrator of the best-selling “Trumpet Pedagogy,” published by Hickman Music Editions. More recently, she collaborated in an advertising project for Adobe Illustrator.
Ms. Nielsen’s art comes from a desire to empower children. “I want kids to be kids. I want them to feel carefree, to imagine, to enjoy the magic and wonder of life. What better way for kids to spark that magic than through great books?”
